Stories of Growing Up Between Rows and Roots with America’s Migrant Farm Workers
“In a faded brown, two-story apartment complex lived an aunt, though I’m not sure she was truly my aunt, only that she was someone’s. She filled the air with the warm scent of pumpkin empanadas, made for all the barefoot children in the neighborhood. The complex, mostly rundown migrant worker housing, sat on the outskirts of town. Beneath its many cramped roofs lived families of the sun, brown-skinned souls who rose before first light, their hands calloused by harvest, their hearts rooted in earth and labor…”
